Hi guys, I have just bought a x5 today,it had the em light on but drove ok as it should unless you put your foot down into the drop down switch, it then very slowely picked up but hardly any. I had it plugged in and the auto electrician said its an air leak in the system as the fuel mixture isnt right? I then was driving home and it bleeped the clocks went of as in no speedo no revs and it said TRANS FAILSAFE PROGRAM on the dash with the abs light, traction control light and s red warning light what sometimes goes amber coloured and a lack of power, like its setting off in 3rd. And now the Em light is back on. I have no clue.

Emagic unitor 8 windows xp drivers. X5 transmission failsafe program Hi guys, So on my way from the airport back to centurion, the x showed transmission failsafe program, when i got home and did diagnostics it showed solonoid valve.

Advice would be appreciated or someone who has experianced this fault before??? Firstly if you bought this car from a trader, car dealer or garage then take it back immediately for them to repair. If it was a private sale I would still take it back as the seller knew there was a major fault with the car.

The lack of power and the transmission error message point to a gearbox internal fault. The 'plug in' was obviously not correctly done as only the engine ECU was accessed.

The whole car should have been scanned and this would have shown up a fault in the auto transmission plus any other ECUs showing errors and fault codes. If you are keeping the car then it needs to go to either: 1.

BMW main dealer 2. BMW specialist garage (Google search for your area) 3. Auto transmission specialist garage (Google search for your area) If you are lucky it may just be the transmission module that has a fault but it could be the valve body inside the box. This is specialised work. Now there is more info so first thing to check is the gearbox oil level. Has the transmission filter and fluid ever been changed? Is the gearbox oil a nice light red colour io is it brown?

If it is brown it suggests overheating. There may be a too weak mixture causing the lack of power so the oxygen sensors need to be looked at on good quality diagnostic equipment. If the ones after the cats are reading low this would confirm a weak mixture which can be due to many things but a faulty airflow sensor, induction air leak etc would cause this. Guessing on a complex car such as this is a no-no and it will be much cheaper in the long run to have a specialist look at it. Diagnosis over the interweb is not recommended!
