Devil May Cry 4 Compressed Vertebrae

DMC4 is a great Devil May Cry game in spite of some of its questionable design decisions & unfinished state, plus it's still one of the most mechanically-deep action games to this day. DmC, while it's a decent action game in its own right (& should have been a new IP), doesn't really hold a candle to the mainline DMC games in terms of gameplay. Of course, DmC isn't anywhere near as bad as DMC2, but I wouldn't put it above 4 & definitely not above 3. As far as the story is concerned, I at least had fun with DMC4's story. DmC veered a bit too hard in the edgy & try-hard direction for my liking while also making questionable decisions with its characters (Example: Even putting aside how DmC Dante looks, the fact that he's now half demon/half angel basically takes away any humanity that Dante had before).
I liked DmC a lot more than DMC4. I didn't like Nero as a protagonist at the time and his gameplay was, uh, lackluster and slower compared to Dante in DMC3, which had a varietry of crazy moves. And when you play as Dante later in the game, then I felt really disapointed, since I liked to play as him a lot more and had to stuck with Nero for the rest of the game. I thought the gameplay in DmC was a lot more fun. But from I'm seeing from the trailers, I think I'll like Nero a lot more as a character and gameplay-wise in the next game. DMC4 (and including SE) by a lot for me. I mean, the back half with Dante is slightly disappointing due to the re-treading of the game but backwards, but it was still a lot of fun to play and the tone of the game was also fun.

DmC had really neat level designs for a bunch of it and had a good art style with the world changing and getting more saturated and junk and transforming. That was cool. But I disliked Dante and the tone of the game, it seemed it was trying to be smart with the whole 'media and government are secretly run be demons and are corrupt!

Wake up sheeple!' Angle but it just seemed super lame, same with Dante being more edgy and less corny. People seem to mock the bit with Vergil and 'mines bigger' but that is the closest thing I remember to the tone of previous games, being silly and tongue in cheek and joking around and less 'fuck yoooou!' Or middle fingers and all that. And with the combat, one of my least favourite things is the whole 'use x weapon on y coloured enemy' which this had a bunch of.
I understand and appreciate using certain weapons that are more effective against different enemies, but when it's basically 'paint by numbers' then it just gets boring, I prefer to work out the effective things myself and then do it of my own volition instead of being told 'uh uh uh, use the blue weapons on these guys! Orange won't work at all!' DmC wasn't BAD, it was a fine action game and I'd played worse at the time and since, it just didn't match up to 4 or 3 and the changes in style and tone along with the combat stuff just hurt the experience.
