Today, I discovered all my kids cannot borrow any of my RPG Maker, Visual Novel, Character sheet, and other pixel game construction sets. I've been buying them on my account so I can share the games (and ground them for misbehavior). This is a real downer. Sure, the kids could use Garry's Mod and other construction kits to make their own games to play (and waste a lot time with heavy modeling tools) - but mine are pre-teens who are into pixel games & platformers. I'm sure most kids wanting to use RPG Maker don't have that much allowance to spend on RPG MV or even VX Ace -- not even counting DLC. Given that RPG Maker appears regularly in this group, I would hope that raises awareness to Valve these are not heavy game engines like Unity (which can be use for free), Unreal, Crytech (again free), ID Tech, etc.

Most folks use games like RPG Maker for tinkering around to have fun & not make money. (Call it software if want, you can make the argument all games are software, and playing with software makes it game.) So, for those parents with kids who want to get started out with an RPG Maker program, you can either: 1. Sink a ton of $$$ on a game licence & DLC for each kid OR 1. Head over to and get the original RPG Maker that comes with DRM free version plus Steam Key. (They have some other DRM free tools you can get there as well.) 2.
