Jan 16, 2013 - Hi Sod7. There are firmware updates for the Optical drives in case there are any issues. Please elaborate the issue with the CD/DVD drive. I got this computer from my friend. The DVD drive (Philips DVD±RW SDVD8820) is not seen in explorer. In the device manager it shows Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.

Hi, I have some problems with the DVD burner or my new Inspiron 6400. I used to be able to read/write CDs and read DVDs but haven't burnt any DVDs yet. Some days ago I found that my drive isn't working anymore. I checked the hardware manager and there is a yellow icon in front of the DVD burner entry. I tried to update the driver, uninstall the driver and remove the entry at all but nothing changed.

XP could find the drive again but there's still the yellow icon. AFAIK there is no special driver for this drive but it should be supported by the standard XP drivers.

There's no icon for the DVD burner in the Windows explorer as well. When I insert a CD the drive spins up like normal but nothing happens. Neither a popup with which tool to open/show the CD, nor a popup scanning the files on the drive. Are there any other steps for troubleshooting or do I have to contact Dell to have the DVD burner replaced? Thank you for your help! Regards Daniel.

Hey, I have the exact same problem! I too have an inspirion E1505/6400. It use to work, but when I came to school it won't recognize any cds/dvds anymore. I put it in and nothing happens. I also went to device manager and have a yellow exclamation point. I tried to right click and update the drivers but it won't let me for some reason.

A tech guy here on campus suggested going to dell's website and updating the drivers but I'm not sure which one. I have tired some that I thought might do something but nothing has helped. When I go to My computer, under hardware there is no cd-rom/dvd drive at all! Rosetta stone 2.1.4.1a no cd crack. But under device manager there is, and then under that there is a yellow! Near the Phillips DVD+-RW SDVD8820.

I'm not sure how to fix it but I plan on asking some tech people here on campus. I'll post if I find anything.

Hi there, I am also looking for a driver, for another reason. I got my new Inspiron 640m 2 month ago, and it worked really fine, until one day, where there was a system crash (due to some kind of driver crash). Since then, DVD reading and burning has been awfully slow (1h30 to rip a DVD, same for burning a 4.7GB DVD), and while it's doing so, the whole PC is extremely slow. Process Explorer shows that 50% of the CPU (i.e. One full processor) is taken by 'Interrupts', which might indicate a driver problem. Thanks in advance, Nico.
